SPECIAL EFFECT POLARIODS

I first began taking my special effect polariods in 1998. I lived in a beautiful little studio apartment in downtown San Francisco, and had a beautiful view out my windows, which faced a woodsy area where the backs of all the apartments came together.

When I moved from that apartment to a basement apartment on Chapman Street in Bernal Heights (still in San Francisco), I took them again, this time of nice foliage in the neighborhood, since my house didn't have a view anymore.

I did the same thing in Napa, and in Calistoga, when I lived in those places, Boise when I visited, and finally here in Eureka.

So my polariods are a record of where I've lived... of my views and, when I didn't have one, my longing for it.

Periodically, I will create shows around these collections of photos, some of which are surreal and dreamy, some stark and glaring. All of them are where I have been.
